ABOUT THE FILM
Like many young men in the Dominican Republic, 19-year-old Miguel “Sugar” Santos (Algenis Perez Soto) dreams of winning a slot on an American baseball team. Indeed, his talents as a pitcher eventually land him a slot on a single-A team in Iowa, but culture shock, racism and other curveballs threaten to turn Sugar’s dream sour.

Denise Ester is a Creative Consultant and Productivity Coach with over 15 years of experience in time management, project & event management, and other creative services. Denise is an avid builder and pusher of community. She is the founder of Muse Company, creator of Inspire 365 Planner, host of she.abidespodcast, and co-author of Women of Destiny: A Path to Greatness.

Rosa Vargas-Cronin is a Bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist with Monroe One BOCES. A wife and mother of two, she devotes her spare time to creating art and being involved in activism and awareness of marginalized communities. Her love for education drove Rosa to run and be elected for the West Irondequoit School Board.

Giovanni Santana is an 18-year-old rising senior at School Without Walls. He’s Hispanic, bilingual and actively involved in the community. One of his greatest accomplishments was being the Top 7 Finalist for the Princeton Prize in Race Relations. In addition to being involved in his community, he loves writing poetry and is in the process of publishing a book.

Deborah Alvarez is the Co-Founder, Cinematographer, and Editor of Our Voices Project, Video Production Assistant at the University of Rochester, and Freelance Videographer. Her mission is to encourage others to not be afraid to express their true selves and show people multiple perspectives through film and music.
