L’Inferno (with Montopolis live score) – Oct. 15
SPOOKY SEASON | Tuesday, October 15 | The first feature length horror film ever released, 1911’s L’Inferno adapts Dante’s classic journey through hell with elaborate costumes, special effects, and set design to create an awe-inspiring and ethereal world. An original score by Montopolis brings new life to this silent film classic with a mix of psych rock, dark wave and terrifying sound effects performed live.

Free screening: Presented as part of WXXI and Al Sigl’s Dialogue on Disability initiative, Unseen screens at The Little Theatre (240 East Avenue) on Wednesday, January 11 at 7:15 p.m. and will be followed by a panel discussion.

A Train Near Magdeburg – Oct. 18
Friday, October 18 at 1pm | On April 13, 1945, a small U.S. Army reconnaissance team set out to investigate a German train stopped on the tracks near the site of their next battle. These soldiers liberated 2,500 Jewish prisoners who were being taken to a death camp, resulting in an estimated 40,000-50,000 people alive today because of the liberation of this train near Magdeburg, Germany. A Q&A with director Mike Edwards will follow the screening.
The Thin Man – Oct. 19
95 YEARS OF THE LITTLE | Saturday, October 19 at 3:00pm | A retired detective — while spending much of his time managing his wife’s considerable fortune and consuming quantities of alcohol — is asked to follow the trail of a missing inventor. Although reluctant to interrupt his holiday in Manhattan, he is persuaded to investigate by his wife’s craving for adventure, and together they embark upon a case that leads to the disclosure of deception and murder.

STAFF PICKS x SPOOKY SEASON | Monday, October 21 at 7:30pm | A grandson of the infamous scientist, struggling to prove that his grandfather wasn’t as insane as people believe, is invited to Transylvania, where he discovers the process that reanimates a dead body. The Mel Brooks comedy classic starring Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn.

BLACK CINEMA SERIES x SPOOKY SEASON | Wednesday, October 23 at 7pm | Seven friends go away for the weekend, only to find themselves trapped in a cabin with a killer who has a vendetta. They must pit their street smarts and knowledge of horror movies against the murderer to stay alive.

SO FETCH x SPOOKY SEASON | Friday, October 25 at 7:30pm | Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s 1996 original meta-horror-slasher. A year after the murder of her mother, Sidney Prescott is terrorized by the masked killer Ghostface who targets her and her friends by using scary movies as part of a deadly game.

SPOOKY SEASON | Saturday, October 26 | A woman staying at an Airbnb discovers that the house she has rented is not what it seems. Zach Cregger’s R-rated horror-thriller has developed a passionate following since its 2022 release, collecting more and more fans thanks to its “chilling and consistently unpredictable thrill ride” of a plot. Starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and “scream king” Justin Long.
Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat – Oct. 24 & 26
ONE TAKE | Oct. 24 & 26 | Jazz and decolonization are entwined in this historical rollercoaster that rewrites the Cold War episode that led musicians Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach to crash the UN Security Council in protest against the murder of Patrice Lumumba.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) – Oct. 26
