A MESSAGE FROM CHRIS HASTINGS, PRESIDENT & CEO
Standing Together: The Little, WXXI, and CITY

Dear Friends of The Little,
This summer, public media across the country was deeply affected by a decision from Congress to rescind federal funding. For WXXI, this meant the loss of $1.9 million in annual support—a serious challenge to our operations.
I want to take a moment to share what this means for The Little Theatre, which has always been a distinct and beloved part of Rochester’s cultural fabric. While The Little has its own identity, programming, and loyal audience, it is also owned and operated by WXXI. We share a board of trustees, leadership, and many of the behind-the-scenes costs that keep both institutions running—from technology and facilities to finance and staffing. CITY Magazine is part of that same family.
So while The Little is not directly funded by the federal dollars that were cut, the impact is still felt. The good news is: we are very much still operating, and our mission remains as strong as ever. Together, WXXI, The Little, and CITY Magazine form a single, united organization dedicated to serving Rochester through storytelling, independent journalism, the arts, and spaces where our community can come together.
In moments like this, your support matters more than ever. Every ticket purchased, every membership renewed, every donation made to The Little helps sustain not only the films and experiences you love here but also strengthens WXXI’s broader ability to serve our community across all platforms.
We are one company, working as one team, committed to one mission: elevating stories and experiences that enrich Rochester. With you by our side, we can navigate this challenge and continue to grow stronger together.
Thank you for being part of this family and for standing with us—at The Little, at WXXI, and with CITY Magazine.
With gratitude,
Chris Hastings
President & CEO WXXI Public Media & The Little Theatre
