The ¡Presente! Latin Film Series starts with a special screening of the film “Selena” on August 14, 2024 at The Little Theatre. This event celebrates the life and legacy of Selena Quintanilla, an iconic Mexican-American singer who left an indelible mark on the music industry and Latin culture.

¡Presente! Latin Film Series aims to highlight Latin filmmakers and storytellers in America, to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of Latin heritage in the context of larger American culture. “Selena” is a testament to the rich cultural tapestry that Selena represents and the lasting legacy she has left behind. Directed by Gregory Nava and starring Jennifer Lopez, it has become a cultural touchstone, inspiring countless fans and artists worldwide.

The screening will take place in Theater 1 at The Little Theatre, located at 240 East Avenue, Rochester. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and the film will begin at 7:00 PM. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure their seats and enjoy a pre-show performance from the band “ELLAS” that includes a tribute to Selena’s music.

ELLAS’ thrilling and distinctive sound stems from women empowering women. Having supported each other in their respective bands, these talented musicians united to bring their collective styles to the stage. Formed in 2019, ELLAS’ exhilarating sound and mesmerizing harmonies has quickly made them one of the most exciting new bands in the Rochester scene.

This event is presented with the support of several local organizations, including the Rochester Latino Theatre Company, IBERO, and Rochester Community Foundation.
