Artist’s Statement:

My Background: I have had an interest in photography for a long time. During high school I became a member of the Lackawanna Astronomical Society in Pennsylvania and was lucky to have access to a 9.5″ Alvan Clark telescope at the Keystone College Observatory where I gave astronomy lectures and performed astrophotography through my early 20s.

I received my MS degree in Optics from the University of Rochester. I was hired as an optical engineer and spent my entire career in that field at the Hughes Aircraft Company in California and at the Eastman Kodak Company here in Rochester. Upon retiring I got much more serious about doing nature photography, starting with photographing the total solar eclipse of 2017.

My Photography:

My focus is on photographing nature: landscapes, wild animals, sunsets, clouds, rainbows, etc. I like to capture various aspects and expressions of nature in the hope that observers will have a new view and enhanced appreciation for the natural world.

I find that animal expressions and behavior are amazing, and I hope that my photographs capture that in a way that other people will appreciate. The same applies to my imagery of rainbows, clouds, tree structures, etc. that reveal the physical aspects of nature.

I have also discovered that certain mathematical/geometrical transformations can reveal a different aspect of physical nature in an unexpectedly pleasing way.

I hope that you enjoy the works displayed here.
