An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.
Beginning on Christmas morning, set during yuletide, and with themes of feating and gift-giving, The Green Knight deserves a place in your alternative-Christmas movie lists (so echos Indiewire)… if it isn’t already!
Includes a post-film discussion with local medieval scholars discussing Arthurian legend, music, and representation in The Green Knight.

Meet the Panelists
Pamela Yee is a postdoctoral associate in English at the University of Rochester, specializing in medieval studies; Managing Editor of the Middle English Texts Series, and a member of the Little Theatre’s High Falls Women in Film programming committee. She has published on racially diverse adaptations of the Arthurian legend, currently serves as the early career representative of the International Arthurian Society’s North American branch, and is (importantly) a huuuuuuge fan of Dev Patel.
Eleanor Price earned her doctorate in historical musicology from the Eastman School of Music in 2025, where her research centered notions of identity and otherness in music of the thirteenth century. She currently serves as an adjunct professor of music history at Roberts Wesleyan University, and will take up a postdoctoral researcher position at KU Leuven in Belgium in January 2025. A longtime fan of medieval themes in film, she looks forward to returning to The Green Knight on the big screen.
Anna Siebach-Larsen is the Director of the Robbins Library for medieval studies at the University of Rochester, as well as the Executive Director of the Middle English Texts Series and curator for pre-1700 collections at UR’s River Campus Libraries (aka the really old stuff).
