LIVE PERFORMANCE • THE LITTLE CAFE

Dean Keller’s Soul Jazz Joint :: Thursday, Nov. 7

Soul Jazz is music that makes you feel good, Whether it’s swinging shuffle, head bobbing funk, Boo-Ga-Loo (a mixture of latin and soul), or re-imagined pop, this group will lift your spirits and keep you grooving.

The group is made up of some of this area’s top instrumentalists: Dean Keller (Rita Collective, Prime Time Funk, Dave Rivello Ensemble) on tenor saxophone, Kristen Shiner McGuire (RPO, Rita Collective, Nazareth College) on drum set, Kyle Vock (Mighty High and Dry, Steve Grills) on acoustic bass, and Greg Woodsbie (SUNY Brockport) on organ and electric piano.

Classic soul jazz tunes from Jimmy Smith, Lou Donaldson, and Bobby Hutcherson, hidden gems from Dorothy Ashby or Don Wilkerson, modern additions to the tradition from John Scofield, and even unusual arrangements of U2 and Black Sabbath all have a place in performances by Dean Keller’s Soul Jazz Joint.
