Synopsis
On Christmas Eve, a family gathers for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, one of the teenagers sneaks out with her friends to claim the wintry suburb for her own.
Michael Cera, Francesca Scorsese, and an ensemble cast fill Tyler Taormina’s “wry but melancholy” comedy with life in this new indie film coming to The Little for two days of screenings before Christmas. High on vibes, low on plot, and filled with holiday-gathering moments reminiscent of any “large family” celebration, where everyone comes together, while also forming individual memories of the events, to make up a blurry-tinsel-tinged view of a holiday night.
“A Christmas movie more invested in atmosphere, and the qualities of wintry light, than in holiday cheer — and that somehow makes it all the more warm.” — Ben Kenigsberg, New York Times
“Like any Christmas film worth the time it took to wrap, Tyler Taormina’s […] Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point has a bone-deep understanding of why all the best holidays are so painfully bittersweet.” — David Ehrlich, IndieWire
