Irish and Scandinavian fiddling, along with some old-time music too. In this special show, Alyssa Rodriguez plays the Swedish Nyckelharpa, the traditional keyed fiddle, in a festive show of olde holiday cheer. Traditional Swedish music will be performed alongside beloved Christmas carols in this interactive performance.
Alyssa Rodriguez teaches at the Kanack School of Musical Artistry and performs traditional and original music around Rochester. She is a classically trained violinist gone fiddle player who holds a degree in Music Composition from Ithaca College. She discovered her love of fiddle music in Ithaca’s vibrant Contra dance and Irish music scene, and discovered Bal Folk and other European fiddle music while studying abroad in Vienna, Austria. She studied Irish fiddle with Tim Ball and Scandinavian fiddle with Laurie Hart of Ithaca, NY, and enjoys performing for live dance events, including swing dances with the Gregory Street Vagabonds, Irish ceilis, Contra dances, and English Country Dances.
