4K RESTORATION | Dr. Frederic Treves (Anthony Hopkins) discovers Joseph (John) Merrick (John Hurt) in a sideshow. Born with a congenital disorder, Merrick uses his disfigurement to earn a living as the “Elephant Man.” Treves brings Merrick into his home, discovering that his rough exterior hides a refined soul, and that Merrick can teach the stodgy British upper class of the time a lesson about dignity.

Nominated for 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture (and Lynch for Director and Co-Writer), and now celebrating its 45th anniversary, this 4K digital projection is a 4K restoration from the original camera negative, overseen by David Lynch.

With the passing of David Lynch in January, modern cinema has lost one of its enigmatic masters. Over a career of forty-five years, Lynch has touched the worlds of television, film, music, and more. To honor his life and celebrate his work, the Dryden and The Little are collaborating to bring some of Lynch’s iconic, groundbreaking work to downtown Rochester cinemas in the best way possible — on the big screen.
