1999 was an unparalleled movie year that thrilled, entertained, and moved audiences.

It was the year that Neo dodged bullets, we all saw dead people, we definitely didn’t talk about Fight Club, the boss took Milton’s stapler, it rained frogs, the legend of the Blair Witch made us (more) wary of venturing into the woods, and the time we voted for Tracy Flick. Simply put, it was the best movie year ever.

For this live episode of Movies and a Microphone our panelists and host will be doing a 1999 movie draft (nod to the excellent podcast, The Big Picture. We’ll use a similar format that they use on their movie drafts.)

Cheer (and roast!) our panelists as we each draft 1999 films from various categories including Oscar nominees, based on a book, blockbusters, reverse blockbusters, wildcard, and hot take.

The audience (that’s you!) will get to take the guest mic and roast us or praise us, plus you get to determine which panelist has the best roster of 1999 movies (because we absolutely need a winner).

Win Stuff! You may recall in 2019 we had a film series called “Party Like It’s 1999” where we selected ’99 films from Brian Raftery’s book, “Best. Movie. Year. Ever. How 1999 Blew Up The Big Screen” and played them on the big screen. A copy of Raftery’s book is part of a prize package will raffle off during the live theatre audience podcast recording.

This is just a podcast, but still have screenings to talk about! We’ll tell you all about an upcoming 1999 movie we’re screening: “The Straight Story” on Wednesday, July 16.

There’s only one appropriate reaction to this news: “whoa.”

The Little’s podcast celebrates its 10-year anniversary in August 2025. Over the years, host Scott Pukos and the Little crew have chatted about the Oscars, movies about turning people into animals, mermaids, and more. We like cinema and we LOVE a bit of tomfoolery. LISTEN HERE
