About the Film:
Join WXXI for Classical 91.5 Presents, a series that spotlights classical music connections in film.
Classical 91.5 Presents...Music of the Heart on Saturday April 8th at 3pm at The Little Theatre.
Come early and enjoy music performed by students from “Strings for Success”, who will be playing at 2:30pm in the theater before the screening.
Music of the Heart tells the story of real-life story of violinist Roberta Guaspari (played by Meryl Streep), who co-founded Opus 118, a strings program that provides musical instruction to students in Harlem in New York City.
"The film traces Guaspari’s decades-long transformation from abandoned Navy wife to underdog violin teacher in an East Harlem public school to a passionate and unyielding advocate of city-wide music education, whose famed program is still running to this day." (Matthew Eng, Tribeca Film)
It's a surprising and under-appreciated film from director Wes Craven, much better-known for his horror films than this earnest and thoughtfully presented story about music education.
