From Academy Award® winning director Roger Ross Williams, LIFE, ANIMATED is the inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films. A coming of age story about using a new language to express love, loss, kinship, and brotherhood.

There will be a Skype conversation with Life, Animated author Ron Suskind following the Sept. 13 screening, and there will be a Move to Include panel discussion following the Sept. 17 matinee.

About Ron Suskind: Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Ron Suskind has written some of America’s most important works of nonfiction, framing national debates while exploring the complexities of human experience.

Ron’s latest work, Life, Animated, A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes and Autism, chronicles his family’s twenty year struggle with their youngest son’s autism. The book, a journey of the heart, much in the style of his first book, A Hope in the Unseen, takes readers to the core of the most fundamental human issues – love, faith, friendship, brotherhood, what parents can offer their children, and how, in moments of darkness, we literally need stories to survive.

The Sept. 17 Move to Include Panel includes:
Stephen P. Demanchick, Associate Professor of Art Therapy / Director of the Play Therapy Center in Creative Arts Therapy Department
Betsy King, Associate Professor of Music Therapy in Music
Dawn K. Vogler-Elias, Associate Professor, Speech-Language Pathology in Communication Sciences & Disorders  Dawn is one of the 2 faculty members who run the ISPAN program.

Move To Include is a partnership between WXXI and the Golisano Foundation designed to promote inclusion for people with intellectual and physical disabilities.
