About the Film:
A feature documentary about the global revolution for safer streets and better cycling, Bikes vs Cars premiers in Rochester and kicks-off the Rochester Bicycle Film Festival and leads into Rochester Bike Week!
Bikes vs Cars follows individuals advocating for those on bikes in cities across the world. “We meet Aline at Sao Paulo’s Ciclofaxia, the weekly Sunday ride where one lane of Paulista Avenue is opened for bikes only. Aline is an inspirational person in the city’s bicycle movement, who tries to focus on the positive aspects of being a cyclist. But that can be difficult in a city where one bicyclist is killed every four days. And in Toronto, where mayor Rob Ford strips away the city’s bike lanes in his battle to win the ‘war on cars,’ we watch as members of the Urban Repair Squad infiltrate the streets at night, using spray paint and stencils to replace them.”
Starting as a Kickstarter project in September 2013, this much anticipated film tells of the modern bike revolution in cities across the world: Bikes-vs-Cars.com/thefilm
Included for the evening…two documentary shorts and after the movie, stay for a panel discussion with planners, engineers, and members of our cycling community.
Ride your bike to the event! The Rochester Cycling Alliance plans a bike corral. Let's demonstrate how cycling can alleviate parking demand, where our own cars would otherwise consume a hundred spaces, when construction nearby at Charlotte Square Apartments and the Inner Loop constrains parking even more. Help advance our cycling revolution, as Rochester revises its Bicycling Master Plan this year. Let's show how cycling can address our parking crisis downtown.
