Her enviable semi-retired life in her family’s villa in Toscany rapidly frays when her “artistic license” in a public speech appears to condone suicide bombers. The film thoughtfully considers the role of art, politics, and family in all our lives through this extraordinary woman’s tale, while also reflecting on Europe’s history and its present.
