Tart Vandelay

Tart Vandelay

With a name inspired by a classic Seinfeld reference, the sonic importer/exporters known as Tart Vandelay began as a duo featuring musical couple Marty LoFaso and Katie Halligan. The two began dating in 2011 while studying music in their hometown of Rochester, NY. After moving to Boston, MA, the couple officially formed Tart Vandelay in the summer of 2014.

Together, LoFaso and Halligan combine a variety of musical genres to create their own unique style. In 2015 they returned to Rochester and began performing full-time, with Marty on guitar/vocals and Katie on vocals/looping station/ukulele. During their first year as a group, Tart Vandelay gained exposure performing throughout the Northeastern US and Canada.

After performing alongside a number of bands, the duo eventually began working with a rhythm section, and added Stephen Petoniak on bass and Christopher Dubuc-Penney on drums in spring of 2016, also releasing their debut EP in September of the same year. Entitled "Frontier Pioneer", the EP offers “a shimmer, a brief moment, into another realm. A quick glimpse of paradise. Like a good dream, making you wish you could experience more.” – Rochester Insomniac Magazine.

In spring of 2017 Pete Zamniak joined the band on bass, replacing original bassist Stephen Petoniak. The band released their second EP “Flow” in December 2017, which blends “ethereal and polished tones together, achieving a smooth and breezy sound.” - buffaBLOG. Tart Vandelay continues to perform throughout the Northeast and Great Lakes regions.
