From John Morse: I’m a born and raised 54 year old Rochester native. In the days before “making of” bonus features on DVD’s, I just watched a lot of movies. This included going to 24 hour James Bond, and 24 hour Woody Allen film marathons at RIT while in High School. My English teacher Alex DeSantis taught a film class my senior year that deepened my curiosity in how movies were made.
After Graduating from the University of Vermont, I drove to San Francisco in September 1985. I never had any interest in being in front of a movie camera, but a “cattle call” for extras to appear in the Francis Ford Coppola movie “TUCKER” in 1987 was my invitation to watch how movies were made. After my extra work was done and I was told I could go home, I hung out in the shadows and watched the crew work. The floor managers (The Assistant Director’s team) in this movie manufacturing business looked like a job I could do, and would pursue. I applied to the Directors Guild of America’s 2 year apprenticeship program several times and in 1991 got in. I completed in ’93 while working on Wayne’s World 2. So for over 25 years, I’ve been working freelance on film and television crews.
