March is going to be fun.
In Rochester, the third month of the year is often one that transitions us to spring. Sometimes that change isn't smooth (and we're hit with an irksome snow storm) but once we're on the other end -- to spring -- everything seems all right.
This lede has a purpose, I swear. We at The Little are also transitioning to something we're extremely excited about. It's a subtle change, but one I'm thinking you'll be pleased with.
Starting Friday, March 4, instead of having five regular run films, we will have four. That extra theater space will be used for special events and it gives a chance to book even more foreign and independent films in that theater (this is why you see some Saturday openings on our schedule).
These added bits of awesome (#LittleExtras) won't be confined to one theater (they'll move around), so the only thing you should notice is an increase in events (special screenings, panel discussions, music, etc.) and independent/foreign films. While we already provided plenty of the aforementioned items, we're excited to be able to amp up the amount of fun and unique content we can provide for The Little super fans of the world.
This isn't a complete list (and includes films that will make a regular run too), but I wanted to give you an early look at a few exciting titles we'll be getting here this month (note: these are subject to change, and again, there will be more added to this list):
Mar. 4: Spotlight (limited encore run, you earned this Spotlight team!)
Mar. 4: Mustang
Mar. 5: Only Yesterday (from Studio Ghibli and with the voice of Daisy Ridley)
Mar. 5: The Club
Mar. 8 One Take Doc: Heart of a Dog
Mar. 12: Cemetery of Splendour
Mar. 18: The Bronze
Mar. 25: Knight Of Cups
Fist-pumping is an acceptable reaction to these Little extras. Another plus to this change? We'll be able to screen more of the titles you want to see. So if you have a suggestion, please feel free to email me at [email protected].
Women's History Month Film Series
More films to circle on your calendar. This year's Women's History Month Film Series honors women in public service. Click the hyperlink for details on each movie.
A reminder that The Little has a podcast: Movies and a Microphone. I host it, and you can be on it. Let me know if you're interested. Note: many of you did, in fact, email me after I first mentioned this. I have not forgotten! I have all your emails saved, and I'm working on getting each of you involved.
East Avenue bridge to close Mar. 14
One more note that is considerably less cool: A City of Rochester spokesperson has informed us that the East Avenue bridge (the stretch of road on East Ave. between Pitkin and Union streets) is currently scheduled to close Monday, March 14. The target date to reopen the bridge is later this spring, in mid-June. The best bet for a detour is Charlotte Street -- which is just a little north of East Ave. Charlotte Street stretches from Alexander Street to Scio Street. I will keep you updated on any updates we receive from the city.
