When I was a newspaper reporter in Canandaigua, I loved the opportunity to tell great stories in Ontario County. I'm not from that area, but living and working in a place for three years can really help form an attachment with a place you adore.
As a result, I was drawn into the story about the Ontario County Jail's Storybook program. Turn the Page, a documentary from Rochester's Low To The Ground film production company details this program that aims to heal the fractured relationship between incarcerated parents and their children who are left behind.
Our Feb. 11 screening of the work-in-progress version of Turn the Page doubles as a fundraiser to help complete the documentary. You may recognize the film's director/producer, Linda Moroney, who curates The Little's monthly One Take Doc film series. Additionally, Claire Kremer, who started the Storybook Program, along with Alice Haskins, Chief Corrections Officer at the Ontario County Jail, will be in attendance Feb. 11. Turn the Page co-director Ray Manard will also be at the special screening. So if you want to know more about this project and movie, attending the screening and speaking with its key players is certainly a good idea. I included details on the film, ticket prices, and more, later on this newsletter.
I'll also note that we have a number of other special screenings this week too, including Shaft, Mavis! and Chi-Raq. And if you missed the Jan. 30 showing of All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records, there is some great news. We'll have a one-week only, encore run of Colin Hanks' documentary about the popular record chain. Showtime details are below.
