Greetings from the Little's New PR Intern

Greetings from the Little's New PR Intern

Greetings, Little community! My name is Sunny. I'm a NYC film student and Rochester native, learning the ins and outs of public relations and film industry at The Little this summer.

I was raised in a suburb of Rochester, respectively, playing music and writing prose more than I was studying. After jumping around a variety of institutions of private and public scholarship, studying a plethora of disciplines (from Music and Cinema at Monroe Community College, New Media at Marymount Manhattan College, and English and African-American studies at the University of Rochester), I've found myself a Film Industry student at the City University of New York, Brooklyn College.

As I am nearing the end of my career as an undergraduate in the city that never sleeps (a myth, by the way), I am sincerely humbled that I've been able to fulfill my internship credit at The Little Theatre - a staple of culture and history in the city I love most of all.

In lectures, I'm being prepared with the skills to potentially act as Executive at a major Hollywood studio, or Producer on a glossy, big-budget production; so applying a practical, big business and big city education to a modest, non-profit cinema as my first professional work experience is grounding and truly redemptive.

While the half-decade after my graduating secondary school has certainly been a roller coaster ride, I have always maintained that I am a creative first, over all else. This said, I'm very pleased I'm able to escape my jaded public commuter school atmosphere where academia dictates that certain cinematography means one thing, or a theater's overhead minus a distribution houses' film rental cost means another, to utilize my creativity in problem solving with an excellent creative staff at WXXI with my noble Sherpa, PR and Marketing Coordinator, Pete Wayner.

I couldn't have asked for a better job placement, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what the rest of the summer brings.

Keep in touch - see you at the Little!
