About the Film:

One Take Bonus: Director Lonny Price will join us after the Dec. 13 screening via Skype.

One of the truly legendary musicals in the history of Broadway, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG opened to enormous fanfare in 1981, and closed after sixteen performances. BEST WORST THING THAT EVER COULD HAVE HAPPENED draws back the curtain on the extraordinary drama of that show's creation -- and tells the stories of the hopeful young performers whose lives were transformed by it. Directed by Lonny Price, a member of the original cast, the film is a bittersweet meditation on the choices we all make, and the often unexpected consequences of those choices.

Featuring exclusive appearances by Stephen Sondheim, Hal Prince, Jason Alexander, Mandy Patinkin, Adam Guettel, Frank Rich and the original Broadway cast of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG.

Second One Take Bonus: Eric Grode -- who has interviewed Stephen Sondheim several times -- will introduce the Dec. 17 encore show

Bio: Eric Grode is the director of the Goldring Arts Journalism Program at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He has worked for more than a decade as a freelance theater critic and reporter for The New York Times, where he has interviewed Stephen Sondheim on several occasions. Prior to that, he was an editor at The Sondheim Review. His most recent book, “The Book of Broadway: 150 Definitive Plays and Musicals,” will come out in an expanded second edition in 2017.
